The Food and Nutrition Society of Gilgit Baltistan (FNSGB) constitutes a professional organization operating exclusively on a non-profit and non-commercial framework. Established in 2017 and formally registered in 2024 in accordance with the Societies Act of 1860 in Pakistan, FNSGB aims to advocate for, promote, and enhance the discipline and profession of food and nutrition, with a particular focus on the region of Gilgit Baltistan (GB). The FNSGB functions as a non-profit entity, managed by a voluntary cohort of professionals specializing in food and nutrition. The society is committed to improving the nutritional status of the population residing in Gilgit Baltistan.
The objective is to represent, advocate for, and promote the field of nutrition to enhance the nutritional well-being of the population in Gilgit Baltistan. The organization will function as a professional entity operating solely on a non-commercial basis, devoid of any political or religious affiliations. Each member of the Executive Committee and other temporary officers of the FNSGB shall be protected against all losses and expenses arising from the lawful execution of their duties, funded by the resources of the FNSGB
The Secretary shall be empowered to initiate or defend lawsuits or other legal actions on behalf of the FNSGB and shall also have the authority to compromise, settle, or refer any disputes concerning the FNSGB to arbitration, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.
No additions, alterations, or amendments shall be made to the Memorandum or the Rules and Regulations of the FNSGB currently in effect unless they have been previously submitted to and approved by the Executive Committee and subsequently ratified in a meeting of the general body of members, requiring a two-thirds majority of those present and voting in a duly convened General Meeting for this purpose
• To obtain, accept, and manage funds, donations, grants, and properties from legitimate sources nationally and internationally, solely to advance the society's objectives. The Society operates on a non-political and non-commercial foundation. No salaries, dividends, or bonuses are distributed to any office bearer or member.
• Funds and Accounts: All expenditures and receipts are audited by a registered auditor. All funds are deposited by the Treasurer, and checks require signatures from any two of: President, Treasurer, or General Secretary. The fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

No changes to the Memorandum or Rules and Regulations of FNSGB shall be made unless formally proposed, reviewed, and approved by the Executive Committee. Such changes must then be ratified by a two-thirds majority vote during a duly convened General Body Meeting. This process ensures that all amendments are democratic, transparent, and aligned with the organization's mission and values.
All financial matters of FNSGB are managed with transparency and accountability. The society’s accounts are audited by a registered auditor appointed by the Executive Committee. All received funds are deposited into an authorized bank account, and expenditures are made through cheques signed by any two of the following: the President, Treasurer, or General Secretary. FNSGB operates on a financial year starting from July 1st to June 30th, ensuring proper record-keeping and annual financial reviews.
FNSGB holds elections every two years to select members of its Executive Committee. All eligible members of the General Body may vote, provided they have cleared any outstanding membership dues. Candidates must submit nomination papers two weeks before the election date, with proposals and seconding by two members. A three-member nomination committee oversees the process, ensuring fairness and transparency. Office bearers are chosen from among the elected members.
The Executive Committee (EC) of FNSGB consists of nine elected members who serve voluntarily to fulfill the organization’s mission. They are responsible for overseeing the society's operations, implementing policies, and approving key decisions. Office bearers within the committee are selected by consensus and may serve up to two consecutive terms in the same role. The EC also holds the authority to co-opt members as needed to support society initiatives.
The Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) provides a platform to review FNSGB’s yearly progress, present financial reports, and discuss upcoming plans. It also serves to evaluate the society’s impact and future direction. Additional General Body Meetings (GBM) may be held with 15 days’ notice, while an Extraordinary General Body Meeting (EGBM) can be convened within 24 hours upon request by five members. These meetings are essential for maintaining transparency, member engagement, and strategic planning.
All General Body Meetings of FNSGB follow established regulations to ensure order and fairness. A one-month notice is required for the Annual General Body Meeting, and one-third of the members constitute a quorum. If the quorum isn't met, the meeting is rescheduled after 30 minutes and proceeds regardless of attendance. Meetings are presided over by the President or Vice President, and decisions are made via secret ballot. No new matters can be discussed unless a 15-day prior notice is given. In case of a tie, the presiding officer holds the casting vote.
